About Michael Levinsohn, Esq.

Michael spent the first two years of his legal career as a deputy public defender in San Diego, CA and then transitioned to private practice in criminal defense for ten years in the Bay Area. He later moved with his family to Los Angeles, and practiced criminal defense at a high-volume practice from 2004-2012. In 2012, he formed his own solo practice in Los Angeles. He recently moved back to the Bay Area and joined The Nieves Law Firm in September 2017.

Work & Experience

Michael became an attorney because he was interested in justice. His earliest memories are seeing his older sister working at a settlement house in his hometown and seeing her passion for justice and equality inspired him.  He remembers how impactful Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and Robert Kennedy were even though he was just eight years old at the time of their assassinations.  He recalls being taught that equality and justice were important amidst all of the turmoil in the world.  He attended Hebrew school as a child and was taught that the fundamental basis of being a good person is to strive for justice and to care about others.

Michael is motivated by fairness. The way he defends cases is by seeking the part that invokes his sense of injustice – when he finds it he knows he wants to do something about it to make it right.  The most satisfying part of his career is helping parents get their children back when they have been unlawfully taken from them based on unfounded child endangerment, abuse, or neglect allegations.
