About Angel Cala
Angel Cala is a Legal Research & Writing Analyst at The Nieves Law Firm, where he supports the legal team through in-depth research, thoughtful analysis, and clear, effective written advocacy. His work is grounded in a strong commitment to justice and a deep understanding of the systemic challenges many clients face.
Raised in Ybor City, Florida, Angel is the son of Cuban immigrants and the first in his family to attend college. Growing up in a single-parent household alongside three siblings, he experienced significant socioeconomic challenges, including the impact of his father’s incarceration during his formative years. These early experiences shaped his perspective and sparked a lasting interest in the legal system and its role in addressing inequality.
Angel began his academic journey at Hillsborough Community College, where he graduated with Honors. He went on to earn his Bachelor’s degree, Magna Cum Laude, from the University of South Florida, and later received his Juris Doctor, Cum Laude, from Stetson University College of Law. While at Stetson, he was selected to participate in the Honors Program Showcase, presenting research on the lead-crime hypothesis and its disproportionate impact on underserved communities. He also worked with a local nonprofit organization providing legal assistance to survivors of human trafficking, further strengthening his commitment to advocacy and client-centered service.
At The Nieves Law Firm, Angel brings a thoughtful and compassionate approach to his work, focusing on producing high-quality legal writing that supports strong defense strategies and meaningful client outcomes. As a member of an underrepresented community, he is especially dedicated to addressing systemic inequities and advocating for individuals whose voices are often overlooked.
Outside of his professional work, Angel enjoys spending time with his family, reading, and exploring the Pacific Northwest through hiking, fishing, and outdoor adventures with his children.
