About David Simmons

David Simmons is a rising third-year law student at the University of San Francisco School of Law, dedicated to reshaping criminal defense through a lens of equity and compassion. Raised in South Sacramento by a single father impacted by mental health challenges and the criminal justice system, David’s commitment to public interest law stems from his firsthand witness to how legal systems destabilize under-resourced communities. His academic journey—honors degrees in History and Black Studies from UC Santa Barbara—equipped him to critically analyze the law’s role in marginalizing communities of color while envisioning its power as a tool for liberation.

A first-generation graduate, David approaches each case with the understanding that clients are not just legal challenges, but individuals navigating deeply flawed systems. His internships and advocacy work emphasize trauma-informed representation, policy reform, and amplifying narratives of those disproportionately harmed by incarceration and policing. Fluent in Spanish and grounded in community partnership, he bridges academic rigor with grassroots activism to advance dignity and justice.

David’s mission transcends traditional legal practice: he aspires to dismantle cycles of harm by centering the humanity of his clients and championing systemic change. His work is a testament to the belief that justice requires not only expertise but unwavering empathy and courage.
