Located in downtown Manteca, three blocks east of Main Street on Center Street, the Manteca Branch hears cases originating in the southern part of San Joaquin County, including Manteca, Lathrop, Tracy, and Ripon.
Types of Cases Heard
The Manteca Branch Court handles:
- Criminal cases — misdemeanor arraignments, hearings, and trials
- Traffic cases — infractions and traffic-related misdemeanors
- Civil harassment matters
- Unlawful detainers (evictions)
- Small claims
Most felony cases originating in San Joaquin County, as well as family law matters and more complex civil cases, are heard at the Stockton Courthouse at 180 East Weber Avenue. The Lodi Branch handles cases from northern San Joaquin County.
What to Expect at a Hearing
Court hearings typically start at 8:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m., though specific times vary by department. Plan to arrive at least 30 minutes early — all visitors pass through security screening.
A few things to know before your hearing:
- Dress conservatively — business or business-casual attire.
- Security screening operates like airport TSA — no weapons, sharp objects, or anything that could be construed as one.
- Phones must be silenced or turned off in courtrooms.
- The courthouse has case number search terminals available, though check ahead about current availability.
Parking and Logistics
Free parking is available around the courthouse and in a lot to the north. The courthouse is easy to access:
- From Highway 99 (north or south): Take Highway 120 west to the Main Street exit. Proceed north to Center Street, then turn east on Center Street for three blocks to the courthouse.
- From I-5 (north or south): Take Highway 120 east to the Main Street exit. Proceed north to Center Street, then turn east on Center Street for three blocks to the courthouse.
Manteca is roughly 75 miles southeast of San Francisco and 15 miles south of Stockton. The courthouse is a short drive from I-5 and Highway 99.
