Monroe Detention Center in Woodland, CA

Address: 140A Tony Diaz Drive, Woodland, CA 95776

Phone (Monroe Records, for visiting and inmate info): (530) 668-5245

Operated by: Yolo County Sheriff’s Office

The Monroe Detention Center is Yolo County’s primary adult detention facility, located in Woodland just outside the courthouse complex. Monroe handles all bookings for the county — anyone arrested by the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office, the Woodland, West Sacramento, Davis, or Winters police departments, or any other Yolo County agency is brought here for processing and housing. The facility is rated as medium-to-maximum security and can hold inmates across virtually every classification level. Both men and women are housed here.

If a Loved One Has Just Been Booked

To confirm someone is in custody, check the Yolo County Sheriff’s online inmate locator or call Monroe Records at (530) 668-5245. Have the person’s full name and date of birth ready.

A few things worth knowing in those first hours:

  • All inmate phone calls are recorded. Don’t discuss what happened over the jail phone. Inmates can make collect or prepaid calls but cannot receive incoming calls.
  • Arraignment typically happens within 48 hours of arrest, excluding weekends and holidays. Yolo County criminal cases are heard at the Yolo County Courthouse in Woodland, or for cases originating in West Sacramento, the West Sacramento Branch Court.

Bail and Release

Bail amounts are set by the Yolo County bail schedule. Bail can be posted in cash or through a licensed bail bondsman. An attorney can request a bail hearing to argue for a reduction or release on own recognizance (OR release). For lower-level offenses, release on a citation may be available without bail.

Visiting Someone at Monroe

All in-person visits are by appointment only and must be scheduled in advance by calling Monroe Records at (530) 668-5245 (select options 1, 1, 5). Visitation slots open at midnight Monday morning for that week, and visits are scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis. The visiting schedule varies significantly based on the inmate’s housing pod and classification (Mainline, Protective Custody, or Administrative Segregation).

A few things to know:

  • Arrive at least 30 minutes before your scheduled visit with a valid U.S. government-issued photo ID or a passport. Late arrivals result in cancellation — no exceptions.
  • Visitors must be 18 or older unless emancipated or married (proof required).
  • Only one car key and your ID may be brought into the facility — nothing else.
  • Dress code: no hats, sunglasses, scarves, sleeveless garments, short skirts or shorts, low-cut shirts, or see-through clothing.
  • No gum, cigarettes, lighters, matches, tobacco, pagers, cell phones, car alarms, key rings, purses, or briefcases.
  • Family Visits (for children, younger siblings, or grandchildren under 18) are held on Sundays only and must be scheduled by the Saturday prior.

Once a visit is scheduled, it cannot be changed or rescheduled. Failed visits count against the inmate’s weekly allotment.

For current visiting procedures, check the Yolo County Sheriff’s Office Visitation page.
