Court System: Solano County Superior Court
The Solano County Hall of Justice is the largest of the Solano County Superior Court’s facilities, located in downtown Fairfield between Texas and Delaware Streets. The building has an unusual history — it was originally constructed in 1915 as the Armijo Union High School for $85,000, in a neoclassical style with granite and concrete construction. It became the Hall of Justice in 1970 after the high school relocated, and Solano County purchased the building for just $11,700 because the original deed required the property to house a public building so long as Fairfield remained the county seat.
The court complex in Fairfield actually includes three buildings: the Hall of Justice at 600 Union Avenue, the Law and Justice Center at 530 Union Avenue (directly adjacent and also handling criminal matters), and the Old Solano Courthouse at 580 Texas Street (which handles civil matters). The fourth Solano County court facility is the Solano Justice Building in Vallejo.
Types of Cases Heard
The Hall of Justice hears a broad range of case types, including:
- Criminal cases — both felony and misdemeanor (shared with the Law and Justice Center next door)
- Traffic cases — including infractions and traffic misdemeanors
- Juvenile — both dependency and delinquency
- Civil cases
- Family law
- Probate
If you were arrested anywhere in central or northern Solano County — Fairfield, Vacaville, Suisun City, Dixon, Rio Vista — your case is likely heard either here or at the Law and Justice Center. Vallejo and Benicia cases are heard at the Solano Justice Building.
What to Expect at a Hearing
Court hearings typically start at 8:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m., though specific times vary by department. Plan to arrive at least 30 minutes early — all visitors must pass through security screening (metal detectors).
A few things to know before your hearing:
- Dress conservatively — business or business-casual attire.
- Prohibited items will not be stored for you — leave them at home or in your vehicle.
- Phones must be silenced or turned off in courtrooms.
- The building is wheelchair accessible via ramps on either side of the Union Avenue entrance.
- The courthouse offers free public Wi-Fi (network: “court public”).
Parking and Logistics
Limited-time zone parking is available directly in front of the Hall of Justice. A parking garage with limited time-zone parking is located adjacent to the Solano County Government Center at the corner of Delaware and Jefferson Streets. ADA parking is available on Union Avenue and in the Old Courthouse parking lot at 501 Texas Street (state-issued placard required).
Parking lots in the surrounding downtown business areas are privately owned and reserved for those businesses’ customers — don’t park in them.
For public transit, the Suisun/Fairfield Amtrak Train Station at 177 Main Street, Suisun City, is less than a 10-minute walk from all three Fairfield court buildings. FAST (Fairfield and Suisun Transit) and SolTrans buses also serve downtown Fairfield.
