Court System: Solano County Superior Court

The Vallejo Branch Court — officially the Solano Justice Building — is the Solano County Superior Court’s facility in southern Solano County, located on the west side of Tuolumne Street near Virginia Street. It is the only Solano County court facility outside Fairfield and serves Vallejo, Benicia, and the surrounding communities. All court activities are conducted on the ground floor of the building.

Types of Cases Heard

The Solano Justice Building handles civil, criminal, and traffic matters. If you were arrested in Vallejo, Benicia, or the surrounding area, your case is likely heard here. Criminal cases include felony and misdemeanor arraignments, preliminary hearings, motions, pretrial conferences, and trials.

Cases originating elsewhere in Solano County — Fairfield, Vacaville, Suisun City, Dixon, Rio Vista — are generally heard at the Solano County Hall of Justice or Law and Justice Center, both at 600/530 Union Avenue in Fairfield.

What to Expect at a Hearing

Court hearings typically start at 8:30 a.m. or 1:30 p.m., though specific times vary by department. Plan to arrive at least 30 minutes early — all visitors must pass through metal detectors.

A few things to know before your hearing:

  • Dress conservatively — business or business-casual attire.
  • Prohibited items cannot be stored at the facility — leave them at home or in your vehicle.
  • Phones must be silenced or turned off in courtrooms.
  • The court offers free public Wi-Fi (network: “court public”).

The building is wheelchair accessible. There is wheelchair access from the entrance drive to the sidewalk near the front of the court (closest to Tuolumne Street) marked by a crosswalk; a wheelchair ramp leads to the main entrance, which has a motion-sensitive sliding door during business hours.

Parking and Logistics

The court has its own parking lot. The lot may be entered from either Tuolumne Street (main entrance) or Virginia Street. Upon entering the parking lot from Tuolumne Street, the court is on your left and the Health & Social Services building is on your right. ADA parking is located immediately behind the Health & Social Services building.

For public transit, SolTrans buses serve the area, and ferry service connects Vallejo to San Francisco. The courthouse is accessible via I-80 (Tennessee Street exit) and is within walking distance of downtown Vallejo.
