San Joaquin Honor Farm in French Camp, CA

Address: 535 West Mathews Road, French Camp, CA 95231

Phone: (209) 468-4384

Operated by: San Joaquin County Sheriff’s Office

The San Joaquin Honor Farm is the minimum-security division of the San Joaquin County Jail complex in French Camp, just south of Stockton. The Honor Farm houses inmates who have been classified as low risk — typically those serving short sentences for nonviolent offenses or those nearing release. Placement at the Honor Farm, rather than the main jail, is determined by the Sheriff’s Office classification process, based on the inmate’s charges, criminal history, and behavior.

If a Loved One Is at the Honor Farm

The Honor Farm shares an inmate management system with the rest of the San Joaquin County jail complex. To confirm where your loved one is housed, use the San Joaquin Sheriff’s “Who’s in Custody” online roster or call the 24-hour Jail Information line at (209) 468-4562.

A few things worth knowing:

  • Honor Farm inmates have more privileges than those at the main jail, including expanded program access and work assignments, but the underlying rules of custody still apply.
  • All inmate phone calls are recorded. Don’t discuss the pending case over the jail phone.
  • Phone calls are funded through Securus — set up an account online or call (800) 844-6591.

Sentencing and Alternatives

If your loved one’s case has not yet been resolved, several alternative sentencing options may keep them at the Honor Farm — or out of custody entirely — depending on the charges:

  • Sheriff’s Work Alternative Program (SWAP) — physical labor in lieu of jail confinement
  • Electronic monitoring — home detention with GPS supervision
  • Work furlough — continuing employment or school while serving a sentence

Eligibility depends on the specific charges, criminal history, and the judge’s discretion at sentencing. An attorney can help determine whether any of these alternatives are realistic and advocate for them at sentencing.

Visiting Someone at the Honor Farm

The Honor Farm has its own visiting office at (209) 468-4384. Inmates are allowed two 45-minute in-person visits per week, scheduled on a first-come, first-served basis.

A few things to know:

  • Bring current government-issued photo ID. Minors must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian with proof of relationship.
  • Cell phones, recording devices, weapons, drugs, alcohol, lighters, and matches are prohibited. No purses, diaper bags, or strollers in the visiting area.
  • Visitors under the influence of alcohol or drugs will be denied entry.
  • It is the inmate’s responsibility to check the visiting list, which is posted each visitation period.

For current schedules and updated rules, check the Sheriff’s Visiting Info page or call the Honor Farm directly at (209) 468-4384.
